First snowfall 2011

Today we had the first snowfall over this year. I was very excited to put my white burberry down coat on, which I bought early this year. Good deals always come at the end of seasons, making you wait almost a whole year to put them on.

Taking pictures in a snowing and chilling morning is not fun at all 🙂

outfit:

Down Coat: Burberry

Jeans: Citizen Humanity

Shoes: Materia Prima from yoox

Bag: Balenciaga

Materia Prima 4” heel boots are very comfy (my girl friend wore them shopping in Manhattan for a whole day)! They are made in Italy, leather upper, lining and sole. It is not easy to find this brand in the states, and I bought from http://www.yoox.com.

2011 Thanks Giving New Buy"Tory Burch Leather Jacket" By Amanda

I got  this Tory Burch leather jacket  from Nordstrom Rack. The price reduced from $865 to $350, plus additional 25% off on Black Friday, I got it just a little under $300 include tax. It’s still not cheap, but the discount was deep, and the most important thing is I love love love…. this jacket. The leather is very soft lamb leather. The design has Chanel inspiration in it. It looks classy and elegant ,and those chain details added some edge feel to it.

I pairing the jacket with a BCBG black tunic underneath, MCQ scarf, black legging, and a red Prada bag to match the red on the scarf. I always like to add some red to my outfit during holiday season.

My makeup for a random working day

As a mom of a five yr old boy, enough sleep is a always luxury thing. Most of time, I have puffy eyes and dark circles in the morning and my skin is not as pretty as it was. Then makeup becomes my best friend. I feel a good makeup can definitely let you look younger and even more professional. My work environment is pretty conservative, so I use to have “nude” makeup, light and natural.

Here is my typical looking for working days:

Steps:

1. After moisturizer and sunblock cream, I give it 15 minutes before put on my makeup.

2. I use makeup “beauty blender” to put on my Diorskin Nude foundation. The beauty blender (egg shaped sponge) is my hero! It is way better than any sponge and brushes. You can use the side or big end to put on foundation, and the pointed end for concealer. It leaves no lines at all! It is also easy to clean: any good soap, brush cleanser, or liquid hand soap. I have beeing used for more than half year, and it is still in great condition. It is definitely worth every penny. Dior nude is the best foundation I have tried so far (I tried La Prairie, La Mer, Shiseido, Cle de Peau, Lancome, Chanel…you name it), which does not add any weight to my skin but gives me enough coverage. I am on the third bottle now.

3. Pressed powder from Chantecaille, the color called “shell”. Chantecaille compact makeup is air light, and evens the skin; however, it has no coverage. So far, this is the only pressed powder which is perfect for my combination skin, summer and winter.

4. For eye makeup, I start from brow pencil. I head to toes fall in love with Diorshow brow pencil! Perfect color (it comes in only one color) and easy to be glided on! Con is… too pricy! It goes fast. As to eyeshadow, Bobbi Brown, Urban decay and Nars all make good products.

5. Then blush. Like other girls, I am head to toes in love with Nars blush. I have two different shades: Orgasm (peach/orange tone) and deep throat (pink tone).

6. Next step is loose powder, which keeps the all makeup lasting all day! I am using La Mer Translucent loose powder, which is good but pricy. Honestly, it is not significantly better than other cheap ones.

7. The last step is mascara. I have been using DiorShow Waterproof mascara for three years. If I curve my lashes, this mascara will not smudge at all! I even wear it to swimming pool~~~~~~

Usually I don’t put lipstick in the morning, (I keep drinking coffee and water)…… instead, I put one Dior Addict lipstick in my purse.

END

(After I read Michelle’s post, I have to add one sentence here: smile is better than any makeup…….. don’t be scared by wrinkles, eventually we all will have it……..don’t let wrinkles stop you smile!_

Holiday Snack: Cinnamon Glazed Pecans by Michelle

Christmas tree in town has been set up and it is the best season of the year! Do you love giving desserts for gifts? I do. It adds a personal touch and makes the gift a little special. Here is the recipe for my Cinnamon Glazed Pecans. They are sweet and alluring.

2 egg whites
1 lb. pecan halves
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoon cinnamon

Beat egg whites until stiff. Stir in pecans. Add sugar and cinnamon. Spread on cookie sheet on cake pan. Bake 1 hour at 220 degrees, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool completely before serving.

Skin Care

Lin: I’ve always enjoyed reading your blog. I’m wondering if you can share with me on what products you use to remove your make up (both face and eye) on a daily basis. I’m using La Prairie foam cleanser for face and Chanel Precision Gentle Eye MakeUp remover for eyes. But I noticed that these two products can’t take off all make up at one or even two tries. Can you recommend a better product?

Can you also recommend a good facial and eye mask? Another problem I have is, after I had my daughter, I got one big and a few small 黄褐斑 on my cheeks that did not go away at all. I’ve tried a few products but none of them worked so far. Any recommendation or should I think about laser surgery?

Thanks a lot!

Alexa: Thank you so much for reading my blog! Cleansing makeup is the most important skincare step. Actually, the products I am using now (very satisfied) are not expensive at all.

1. Lancome Bifacial eye makeup remover. This is the best makeup remover I found so far. Shake well, then satire a cotton pad (I love shiseido cotton pad). Put on your eyes for 5 seconds. 95% of your eye makeup is gone! Then I use the same cotton cleansing up the residual of mascara and eyeliner. Sometime I just use bifacial to clean my face, or skip the face makeup remover.

2. After I invested my Clarisonic plus face brush ($225, including a body brush), I stopped purchasing those expensive face cleanser. This brush is my HG product! I use this brush with CeraVE face cleanser ($10 from drug store) or DDF blemish foaming cleanser, perfect! I have been using this brush for 2 years, no problem at all.

3. As to brown spots on your face, I don’t think any skincare can help (like the red blood vessels on my cheek, after my son). I saw my dermatologist, and she said laser or heat treatment was definitely needed to remove them. I would suggest you to make an appointment with a local dermatologist as early as you can, which usually takes about 2 months. Each treatment is around 300-400 dollars, and if you have lots, you may need couple treatments. Anyway, the first visit is covered by your insurance (no treatment, she/he only talks with you and plans a treatment. Sometime she/he will try the treatment for couple spots on you). If a further treatment is scheduled, you need to pay from your own pocket, but it is eligible for FSA.

4. From diet, people told me 红豆薏米 may help. I just started making the broth, and I don’t expect too much from it. Anyway, it is good for health.

Please follow us, and thank you again for visiting my blog!

Lin: Thanks so much for the detailed info! Very much appreciated! You truly are an expert in skincare and fashion. -:)

Is this the right Clarisonic plus product? http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P281513&categoryId=B70
I have very sensitive skin. Do you think I can use the Clarisonic product?

I also plan to start searching for a good dermatologist to get the laser treatment to get rid of the brown spots on my face.

I’ve learned a lot from reading your blog. Thanks for spending your time and efforts on sharing your knowledge. What I’ve learned from your blog has saved me lots of time and trial and error.

Take care.

Acne Fighting

Yan: I am very insterested in your daily skin care. As an acne fighter in my late 30s’, I am still searching for solution. I’d like to know more details about the skin care products:

1. FL’occitane soap with the combination of sea salt crystalfor face cleaning and CeraVe for moisturizer: Could you please give me more details about the types of soap, sea salt, and CeraVe? and where do you buy them?

2. Do you used toner and mask? Do you mind sharing more information about Skin care tips for acne?

Thank you very much!

Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy black friday!

Michelle: I am more than happy to share my experience about acne fighting! I’ve just added links in my post for you to review. L’occitane soap is not the only choice. The point is how to clean your skin efficiently using the right product. Sea salt, not the table salt, is natural anti-bacterial with many healing minerals. I put about 1/2 teaspoon sea salt in my hand and dissolve it with a little warm/hot water; gently scrub it on my face, especially on the active area (for me, it is around nose, mouth, and chin); it might sting so I wash it off after half or one minute. Once a day. That is it! I did use masks before, but not now. I feel my skin cannot afford rich stuff which might make me look radiant but also gives me hidden acne problems sooner or later.

Let us know how it helps! Thanks for reading~~~
