Concealer :: Budget Buyer vs. Brand Buyer

A few days ago, our reader Lin asked if there is any concealer that we can recommend. Today I am going to review two products I recently tried, namely the one by Maybelline, and the other by Cle de Peau. To be honest, I nearly threw away Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer which was in my cosmetic bag for quite a long time not knowing how to best deal with it. When you feel it, the texture is not like whipped cream in the picture, but more like peanut better. It has great coverage but thick and matte. So it is hardly to blend seamlessly into my skin, until, I found this pink sponge(Bob)! With the help of this magical Beauty Blender product, The results were dramatically improved and finally a breath of relief!

Well, at the same time during my research for a new brand, Alexa recommended this Awards Winning concealer by Cle de Peau, which is owned by Shiseido but more high end. Literally, this is the most I’ve ever spent on a make up item. Is it worth it? I won’t know it until I try it though. What I can tell you right now is, I am pleased with it. It is not overly creamy or drying, instead, a few swipes would do the work easily, and, a small stick can last quite a long time.

Which one I would repurchase later? I don’t have a certain answer yet. Budget? Brand?

Hope you found this review helpful. Thank you for reading and have a great week!

XOXO Michelle

Anne Fontaine Black Ruffled Shirt :: I can’t wait to wear her out!

I know it is only 30F outside (and only the end of January), but I have to put her on and take a picture for her: my dear black ruffled shirt, from Anne Fontaine. This black shirt was bought in Anne Fontaine boutique at Short Hills Mall, NJ. Michelle bought both white and black, and I got the black one. You definitely can dress up or dress down this fabulous shirt, with pants, skirts, or jeans! It is my most favorite shirt in my closet now: double layered collar, ruffles on the front, and ruffles on the cuffs. But just FYI, I only have 3 button down shirts in my closet, lol……

Brightening Vince Sophia Cardigan with Alexander McQueen Skull Cashmere Scarf

Happy Monday! Monday usually is my least favorite day in a week, because I have to adjust from weekend mode back to normal…….. I wish I could live in France, where you can have 39 paid days off……. To overcome my “Monday morning symdrome”, I like to add some bright color to my outfit, some eye candy at least. This red skull scarf, from Alexander McQueen, always works! For fun, I wear my green tone carf hair belt, from Jcrew today….. red vs. green, lol

Seeing triple :: Plaid scarf, coat and purse!

I am a super fan of geometry: stripes, plaids, circles….any patterns! Apparently, I love math, lol……. Just for fun, I tripled plaids today~~~~~~~

The grey sweater was bought recently from Banana Republic (again, the price in store is way cheaper than that online. For example, this one is $38 in store now). The combination of color and style reminds me Vince, which sells silver striped cashmere sweaters these years. I am pretty cheap at sweater dresses, and I don’t want to seat on cashmere all the time~~~ This wool blended sweater dresse is actually great, not too chunky and not too thin. I haven’t figured out which belt goes with it so far. Anyway, just layered it with a coat at this moment.

Purple fox fur scarf, skinny belt and tall boots

Fur collars / scarves were put on my wish list at the very beginning of this winter.  Wearing a fur collar / scarf is such an easy way to add chic to any winter outfits, day and night! Also it keeps me warm and cozy in chilling days. It goes with cardigans, sweater dresses, trench coats, and even down jackets! You can wear it by itself, or combine with your silk scarves (see how does MaiTai tie her Hermes with fur collars?).  This purple fox fur scarf is made by ADRIENNE LANDAU, and was purchased from Saksfifthavenue yesterday (it was $598, and now on sale at $238). There are two colors I saw in the store, black and purple. Black is certainly more versatile, and easily goes with any colors. However, black (from fox fur) seems to be too heavy for my height, and too dark for my hair color. Also, Amanda got me a skinny belt, in purple………

I paired the fur scarf with my JCrew sweater dress (on sale at $27, girl size 14, also see here). The purple patent leather belt is also a buy (thank you, Amanda), from JCrew (on sale at $10). Finished this outfit with my purple tall boots.

The whole outfit might be better with a brown purse/bag; however, I don’t have any small ones in my closet :). This black Chanel classic flap seems to work too.

Denver :: Mile High City

After a fabulous trip to Denver, it feels sweet to be home again. Hope everyone has had a wonderful start of this prosperous new year of Dragon! For nearly a week filled with deep blue skies and sunshine in the Mile High city, it was blissful.

Most of the time, I was hanging around in DTC (Denver Tech Center) area. Enjoyed this breathtaking panoramic view of snowy mountains. Took a few snaps on the way between office and lunch place.

Headed to Denver downtown on Wednesday night with my lovely friends/coworkers. Venturing through a city is always fun. Took a free bus ride along Pedestrian Mall. Festival lights were still on. Stepped into a Peruvian food restaurant for dinner.The food is in good quality and the taste is even a little bit close to Chinese cuisine.

Sipped a handcrafted beer at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, Denver’s first brewpub opened by former Denver Mayor, now Colorado Governor. Love playing billiards games? You’ve got the right place (just like me)!  Wynkoof is located at LoDo Historic District in lower downtown, well-known for the birth place of Denver and its warehouse look.

Admire your wilderness, enchanting scene, youthful look and bursts of energy. So long, Denver!

so excited! :: new buy — a Nikon D7000

After a whole week of research, I decided to buy a new DSRL camera. After debating between Nikon D700 (which is at least double of the price) and D7000, I finally placed my order this morning: D7000 with a 18-105mm lense. I am going to search deals for a 50mm f1.8 lense now…… (thought about 50mm f1.4, but my friend suggested that f1.8 should be enought for this high ISO camera)…..

I will post my review after I get the camera and play with it.

Happy weekend!
